About Me

Dr. Ameerani Jarbandhan is a Surinamese scientist, physiotherapist, educator, and public servant dedicated to improving healthcare, education, and community wellbeing in Suriname. With a strong passion for rehabilitation sciences and human movement research, she has built a career focused on empowering people through knowledge, health, and innovation.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from the Anton de Kom University of Suriname and later completed a Master’s degree in Human Movement Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2021, she obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from KU Leuven, where her research focused on stroke rehabilitation, physical activity, and physiotherapy interventions in Suriname.

For more than a decade, Dr. Jarbandhan has served as a lecturer and researcher at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname, mentoring students and contributing to the advancement of medical and rehabilitation sciences in the region. Her academic and scientific work has been internationally recognized through multiple publications related to stroke prevention, mobility, rehabilitation, and public health in multicultural societies.

In addition to her academic career, she has extensive practical experience as a physiotherapist, providing care and rehabilitation support to patients throughout Suriname. Her commitment to community health extends beyond clinical practice through public awareness initiatives focused on stroke prevention, healthy living, and physical activity.

Dr. Jarbandhan is also known for her dedication to national development and public service. She became a member of De Nationale Assemblée in 2025, where she advocates for healthcare improvement, education, and social progress in Suriname.

Beyond her professional achievements, she is passionate about music and meditation, and is an accomplished sitar player — an art form she values for its connection to discipline, focus, and inner balance.

Driven by knowledge, compassion, and service, Dr. Ameerani Jarbandhan continues to inspire others through her work in science, healthcare, education, and leadership.
